Artists in Oaxaca, Mexico, Welcomed Glassell School of Art Students into their Studios

Students from the Glassell School of Art -MFAH participated in a cultural tour of Oaxaca, Mexico, under the lead of Arielle Masson and Valentina Atkinson, during the past month of October.

Five renowned local artists (Rolando Rojas, Saúl Castro, Didier Mayés, Ixrael Montes and Adán Paredes) welcomed the group into their local studios and galleries. The group also visited local museums, convents and the workshops of artisans who are celebrated for their fine handcrafted goods such as Alebrijes (brightly colored Mexican folk art sculptures of fantastical creatures), black mud pottery created by talented potters and sculptors, and finely crafted tapestries and textiles made by artisans who create according to various textile traditions.
